Nakano Family Reunion and 13th year memorial for mother

On May 15, 2011, several of the extended Nakano family gathered  in Nagasaki, Japan to hold the 13th year memorial dinner of their mother/grandmother/greatgrandmother/aunt, Keiko Nakano.

We had plenty to eat and

 drink!  About 40 bottles of Asahi Dry and a couple of bottles of red wine. Shelley has learned to be a great beer drinker.

Hiromi has taught us all to go, "Oh no!" and touch our heads.  Little Canede can do this when she wants to.

I have foggotten how green Nagasaki is in May. Ginko, Camphor, Cherry, Sypress, Pine and other trees got full of new green leaves, and each has slightly different color of green.

April 30, 2011 the MS Verladam docked at Nagasaki with our friends Dale and Marny Cardin who were taking an Asian cruise for their 30th wedding anniversary.  We met them at their ship.

We take the street car and then a taxi to get to Mt. Inasaiyama, the tallest mountain top in Nagasaki City and a great viewing place.

It was very windy, but the view was spectacular, 360 degree view of both harbor and the East China Sea that feeds into the Nagasaki harbor. 

We were on the mountain top directly across from where their ship had docked

Going back down the mountain we saw a map that noted a shortcut trail, so off we went into the woods.

We walked about a third of the way down and then found a road and took a bus to the bottom.

Then a street car to the Suwa Shinto Shrine where there was a formal wedding going on.  Goro and Shelley were also married here on 7/7/77

Next we went to a very traditional Japanese restaurant and had a private room with view of garden and wonderful food and beer.  We needed a walk after that and strolled downtown until we came to Megane Bashi, Eyeglasses Bridge, the oldest stone bridge in Japan.  It was then time for them to get back to the ship, so we hugged goodbye and went our separate ways.  A great day for all.

Racoons or Owls ??

  Several tall ships sailed in Nagasaki harbor. The biggest one called NIHONMARU tried put the sail to the mast but gave up because of strong wind. There were many people out in harbor enjoying the seen, food and riding the old stem pedal ship called [Kankoumaru]. This ship and sister ship [Kanrinmaru] has originally made in Dutch in 1798, and Kanrinmaru made successful round trip voyage from Japan to Sanfransisco in 1800.

We went to the beautiful wedding of Risa who is Goro's sister's daughter.  Goro's sister is Hiromi. It was more of a modern wedding in that the bride did not wear a kimono, but a lovely white wedding dress and then a knock-out ball grown.
